The Table

There is a long table by the brazier. Somebody is always cooking on it, and whatever they make feeds everyone sitting down.

How it works#

Cook at the table on the Landing. A dish takes real time and inputs — lichen, provisions, whatever came up the stair — and produces a buff that lasts a fixed number of minutes of torch time.

The important part: a dish feeds everyone at the table, not just the cook. Sit down while someone else's pot is going and you get the buff too.

Exact durations — still being tuned

Buffs do not stack with themselves. Two dishes of different kinds do stack.

Why cooking is shared#

Almost everything else in GLOAM can be done alone. The table is deliberately the one system that pays you for being in the room with other people — the cook gets a bonus per delver who eats, and the eaters get something they did not have to make.

It is also the reason the Landing is loud. A hub that is only a menu is not a hub; a hub where someone shouts that the pot is on is a place.

Nothing here is required

No dish gates any content. The buffs are meaningful — a lichen broth is a real extra ten percent — but you can reach every floor in the game having never cooked anything.
